Apple Chai Crumble Bars
This is basically apple pie, BUT with a streusel topping and a YUMMY chai glaze!!! It is so good. Everyone needs this in their life.
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
Apple pie filling
6 tbsp butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
8 cups diced apples
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cardamom
Crumb topping
3/4 cup oats
1/c cup flour
1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp baking soda, salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
Chai Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger, cardamom
1/4 tsp nutmeg, cloves
1/8 tsp black pepper, pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp butter
3 tbsp milk
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease and line 8x8 baking pan.
Make crust: grease Combine softened butter and sugar. Add in the rest of the ingredients until it comes together. Press into your prepared pan evenly. Bake for 12 minutes. It should be just slightly brown at the edges.
Prepare Filling: Melt butter and sugar in a pan when it starts to foam a little. On medium heat, add chopped apples and spices. Leave it to steam for 10-15 minutes. The apples will be soft and no excess liquid in the pan. Leave to cool for a few minutes and then spread evenly on top of the crust.
Crumb Topping: Put all dry ingredients in a bowl. Cut butter into small cubes, and pour into the bowl. With your hands mush the cold butter into the dry ingredients until it looks crumbly. Evenly sprinkle the mixture on top of the pie filling. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool for 45 mins before glazing.
Make Glaze: combine powdered sugar, spices, milk, and butter in a bowl and mix until it is smoothly combined. After completely cooled drizzle on top and let set for 1-2 minutes. Enjoy!
